Space was very limited working between the props with the two forklifts, including height restrictions. Hence the packing/cradle I built above the forklift forks to increase the height of the beam when lifting.	Here I came up with an idea to leave the 2 old support beams in place. I made a set of drawings which I presented to the engineer for his approval and submitted them to the council building regs. This saved a significant amount of cost for my client.

This picture gives one an idea of the size of this beam. 550 kg per meter x 11 meters. That's 6 tons of beam. After installation, the engineers requirements was to pre-stress the beam before dry packing between the beam and the brickwork. Which meant, placing a thin 50 ton hydraulic pan cylinder between the beam and brickwork, bending the beam down by 25-30mm.	Here we are slowly edging the last beam in place. Synchronizing the two forklifts to align the beam to correspond with the two upright posts to get the fixing bolts to line up on the face plates. The posts also needed chemical anchoring on the base plates. We had to use a mag drill (magnetic base drill press) to drill 32mm holes through the face plate for the M30 bolts.

Above shows us installing one of 3 support beams weighing 6 tons each, 11 meters long, while supporting a block of flats above. This was a project to convert two adjoining shops into one large area for a new Cost Cutter outlet in Staines, London, by removing the center dividing wall.
I was site manager and welder for this particular project. I worked closely with the engineer and communicating with the local Staines council to conform with all their requirements needed.
